Zane Lowe went to great lengths to secure a Frank Ocean interview. The creative director of Beats 1 Radio told the London Evening Standard that he flew to Tokyo to interview the enigmatic singer. Lowe spoke about the difficultly in landing the Frank Ocean interview due to the Ocean's private nature.

"Frank and I have known each other for a few years. So he trusts me enough to get on FaceTime," Lowe said. "But if [that interview] doesn’t work and it’s not coming together, there’s that moment where you have to ask yourself: ‘How badly do you want to deliver this for Frank, and for the audience? And is this going to be the best way to do both?’"

Zane Lowe's decision to fly to Japan was not something that involved weeks of planning. Lowe described how quickly things went down once he got the approval of Frank Ocean.

"Deciding within a few hours to jump on a plane for Tokyo to interview Frank Ocean, and getting the go-ahead from him by text — ‘Yeah, do it, get on a plane’ — and that’s all we have," Lowe said. "We don’t have a time, we don’t have a location and there’s a freedom in that which makes it incredibly exciting to be working in this modern framework."

It is not known when the Frank Ocean interview is scheduled to air. Hopefully the singer will speak on his ability to get out of his Def Jam contract ahead of the Blonde album release.
