Desiigner has been in the news plenty since his arrest last week, numerous charges against the rapper being dropped in the days since, but brining it back to the music, Def Jam has released the above mini-documentary sharing some of his origins and motivations.

"Did I always want to be a rapper? Nah," he says in the near three minute clip. "I always seen myself as being an artist. Being able to create things and put things out there for people to enjoy and people to watch was just always me. And it’s love, I love it."

Desiigner goes on to detail some of the circumstances of his life before music, saying he was frequently getting into trouble and chose to sell music instead of drugs. "My job is to come back to the community and change and show that there’s other things to do," he says.

As for patience and determination, Desiigner says, "Take your time with your work. Make sure it’s right make sure you deliver that craft and keep grinding and never forget that you always can make it." The Brooklyn rapper has practiced what he preaches as well, rolling out his single "Timmy Turner" over the course of weeks, an XXL Freshman freestyle leading to a video of he and Mike Dean performing the song live. Just this week, the actual animated Timmy Turner leant his voice to the track, proving the song's evolution longer than anyone could have imagined.
