Update:

21 was just playing.

Original Story:

21 Savage's famous knife tattoo might be no more. The Atlanta rapper says he got all of his face tattoos removed in the video above.

"Just got all my tattoos removed," 21 Savage says in the video. "[I'm] a changed man now. Finna go to church."

He seemed to have the tattoos at the taping of the BET Hip Hop Awards this past weekend, so it could just be make-up covering his notorious knife. Fader talked to a tattoo removal specialist who says it would take at least eight sessions to get rid of the ink and it's impossible 21 could have done so since Saturday.

The potential tattoo removal might be 21 Savage's first step in moving away from the violent raps that made him popular. Last month, the 2016 XXL Freshman told The Breakfast Club he planned to move away from such content in the future. But, he also explained that he probably wouldn't be famous without rapping about the violence. As he told XXL during the Freshman cover shoot, he stood out because he actually lived the life he rhymed about.

"I’m a real gangsta, I really come from that shit," 21 Savage said. "There’s other niggas too that come from that shit but most of these niggas don’t come from it. I’m not saying that it’s a problem, I’m just saying that’s what’s different from me. Like I’ve been shot, all types of shit. Lost niggas right in front of me, I’ve been in real life or death situations and shit. I’m just different from these niggas. And I’m humble and got a brain. Most of these niggas be dumb as fuck, even in their interviews, they just be looking dumb as hell. They don’t know how to speak or nothing."

It has been a big year for 21 Savage. In addition to his inclusion in the 2016 XXL Freshman class, he also dropped his biggest project to date in Savage Mode.
