Marc E. Bassy Drops ‘Groovy People’ EP

One of the biggest surprises of 2016 is the rise of Marc E. Bassy. The crooner from The Bay struck gold with his smash hit single “You & Me” featuring G-Eazy, which peeked at No. 77 on the Billboard Hot 100. The artist, who's signed to BPG and Republic Records, recently released his anxiously awaited new Groovy People EP. The five-song project is an wonderful palette of the different range and sound Bassy has.

At the top of the year Marc E. Bassy toured with G-Eazy and A$AP Ferg for their When It’s Dark Out Tour, selling out arenas across the country. Before Groovy People, the 29-year-old released his East Hollywood mixtape. He also has appeared on G-Eazy’s When It’s Dark Out album last year on “Some Kind of Drug.” Bassy also has close ties with IAMSU, Skizzy Mars, DJ Mustard and former XXL Freshman Ty Dolla $ign. When XXL interviewed the former songwriter for The Break, he talked about where he’s trying to go with his own music.

“My ultimate goal really in all seriousness is to put real substance into my music and it’s really hard to get there to open the door to get people to listen to you and appreciate you” explained Bassy. “And you can’t be preachy and I don’t want to be preachy. I don’t want to tell people how to live their lives, but there’s so much shit going on in the world that people don’t pay attention to. No one writes about it in their music. And I love where music is at right now but there’s literally not one person I can look to besides Ty sometimes and Kendrick.”
