Kanye West, if nothing else, is an artist and showman committed to pushing the concepts of music and performance to new found heights, and at the opening of his Saint Pablo tour in Indianapolis on Thursday (Aug. 25) he did just that, unveiling a floating stage that hovered above the crowd. During his 2014 Yeezus tour, West had two stages, one in front of the audience and one within it that rose up to resemble a mountain peak, but it would seem West has raised the stakes even further with his latest.

As for the set list for the show, West ran through much of his The Life of Pablo album, opening with "Father Stretch My Hands," and classics from his catalog like "Can't Tell Me Nothing." The Saint Pablo tour continues tomorrow (Aug. 27) in Buffalo before swinging up north to Canada for a few dates. In early September though, it pit stops in New York, just in time for MTV's 2016 Video Music Awards. It was reported yesterday that MTV has granted West four minutes of show time to do as he pleases. Last year, they gave Kanye the stage and he launched into a long speech in which he proclaimed, among other things, his intentions to run for president in 2020.

Check clips from the opening night below, with Kanye tethered to the floating platform as it moves via a crane. Based on the swarming crowd below him, it looks as much a concert as it is a performance art piece, the attention of some focused on consuming the audio rather than the visual components of the show.
