In the world of hip-hop, summer is the season that gets the most love and attracts the most buzz. School is out, the long sleeves and pants have been put to the wayside in favor of T-shirts and shorts, and the days and nights seem to stretch a little longer. Simply put, summer is the king of the calendar among rap fans, who start anticipating its arrival as soon as a sliver of sun creeps out at the beginning of spring.

Due to the cold weather that terrorizes much of the country, the winter months are for hibernating and brooding, but summer is for venturing out, living life to the fullest and enjoying the warmth while you can. While summer may have its many perks and makes just about everyone feel alive, one drawback is that the temperature can sometimes rise to unbearable levels.

Air conditioners and fans may give you a reprieve from the heat, and serve as a safe haven while you cool down, but for those ripping and running through the streets in search of the next activity, there's no running away from mother nature's wrath. Being that August is here, we're sure more than a few of you have had to power through excruciating humidity by this point in the season.

A heat wave may be a pain in the ass and make it feel like you're in hell on earth, but luckily for us, many of our favorite rappers know this feeling all too well; they've crafted songs to beat the heat. From Jay Z on Memphis Bleek's "Dear Summer" to Chance the Rapper on Donnie Trumpet & the Social Experiment's "Wanna Be Cool" to Drake's "Fire & Desire," there's a song to soundtrack those blistering hot days. Here are 40 songs every rap fan should have on play in the midst of a heat wave.
