FX has been releasing some teasers for Childish Gambino's upcoming series Atlanta over the past few months. The network finally gives viewers the first extended preview of the highly anticipated show with a full trailer. The footage gives fans a better glimpse at the characters of Earnest "Earn" Marks (played by Gambino) and Paper Boi.

Childish Gambino recently opened up about Atlanta at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour. The actor-turned-rapper said he wanted to create something very specific in today's television landscape.

"The thesis with the show was kind of to show people how it felt to be black," he said. "What was important to me was that this show was personal and had a specific take, because that’s all you can really ask for from a show nowadays, is having a specific point of view on something."

The Community star also spoke about his decision to not play a rapper in the show. Childish Gambino claimed that playing an MC would mess with his ability to make music.

"Because that would be weird, that would be so weird. I wouldn’t have enjoyed that,” Gambino said of playing a rapper. "It’s possible to do that but then… that makes it harder for me to do music. It just clouds a lot of things. "There’s a level of magic realism and suspended disbelief that you need for all genres, and it’s important for me as an artist to keep those all in tact."

Childish Gambino's Atlanta is scheduled to premiere on Sept. 6. For more information about the series, check out the show's official page on the FX site.
