Update:

One of Gibbs' attorneys, Theodore Simon, has released a statement on the rapper's recent extradition (below).

“Mr. Freddie Gibbs while free on bail in France voluntarily withdrew his procedural extradition appeal. He did so to work cooperatively with authorities to assure a smooth transfer to Austria and to further enhance the opportunity for an expedited decision on the merits. Freddie has faithfully abided by all terms and conditions of his release and transfer set by the Court. He continues to pursue every available means to demonstrate that he is absolutely innocent and that he has been both belatedly and wrongly accused. To be clear and accurate, to date Freddie Gibbs has not, we reiterate, Freddie Gibbs has not been charged with any offense. An investigation is continuing. Mr. Gibbs remains hopeful that a thorough and searching investigation will reveal the actual facts, including the absence of any scientific, physical, or credible evidence implicating him, thereby paving the way for his exoneration and return to his family and one-year-old child. Consistent with the available legal practices and procedures in Austria, Mr. Gibbs will ask the Court to release him on bail, under reasonable terms and conditions, as was done in France. Through counsel Mr. Freddie Gibbs has consistently remained fully cooperative with law enforcement offices and judicial systems in both France and Austria and will continue to do so.”

Original Story:

Freddie Gibbs is still locked up abroad, and the most recent news about his situation states that he has been extradited from France to Austria where he has been in custody at a prison in Josefstadt, Vienna since Sunday (July 31).

According to Orf.at, the French Supreme Court confirmed Gangsta Gibbs was relocated in July. This is exactly what Gibbs and his lawyers were initially fighting against.

The Gary rapper was initially locked up on June 4 in France, where he was taken into custody prior to a concert in Toulouse for his Shadow of a Doubt Tour on allegations of rape in Austria stemming from an alleged incident from 2015.

Gibbs' lawyer Scott Leemon put out a statement claiming that his client is innocent and questioned the Austrian authorities’ motives. “Freddie Gibbs adamantly denies the allegations that have been levied against by Austrian authorities,” the statement reads. “It makes you wonder why it took a year for Austrian officials to bring these charges. Freddie will be fighting the extradition request as these are nothing more than trumped up charges.”

On June 16, Gibbs was released from custody on $56,000 bail. Leemon was initially able to get an appeal for his client's extradition to Austria. It appears the rapper has still not been charged with a crime, and is wanted in questioning in the ongoing investigation.

In less serious news, Gibbs announced in May that he and Madlib would be dropping another joint project titled Bandana. It would be the follow-up to their 2014 project Pinata.
