E-40 gave back to his old middle school in a major way. The Bay Area rapper donated $25,000 worth of backpacks and school supplies to his alma mater, Franklin Middle School in Vallejo. The "Tell Me When to Go" MC explained that he wanted to provide some inspiration for the kids.

"I just wanna be an example, an inspiration," E-40 said. "You know, tell 'em you can make it. I come from Magazine Street right here in Vallejo. I never left. I just always been here. I don't actually rest my head in Vallejo no more, but I'm here."

E-40 felt it was important to give back to his old stomping grounds in Vallejo. He's put on for the city like no other, continuing to shine a light on his hometown.

"I let the whole world know," he said. "Before Vallejo was known, I just let the world know. So when you think of Vallejo, you think of E-40."

When asked about his decision to donate school supplies, E-40 talked about how vital an education is in today's landscape.

"I'm just playing my position," he said. "Giving back to the kids, I feel like the kids are the future. And school's very, very important, especially these days. Back in the days, I guess you could drop out. You gotta have an education nowadays. You really do."

E-40 has continued to connect with the new generation in all types of ways. He recently collaborated with Oakland's rising star Kamaiyah on a single called "Petty."
