When it comes to the 2016 Video Music Awards on Sunday (Aug. 28), the night was full of surprises. From Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's black and white look on the red carpet to Nicki Minaj's royal blue gown, rappers showed up and showed out before the big show kicked off.

As for the performers, the Queen Barb in charge joined Ariana Grande onstage for their collabo "Side to Side," complete with an all pink everything vibe. Yeezy's four minutes of TV time turned into a memorable speech in which he shouted out his ex-girlfriend Amber Rose while also bigging up his wife. But the most intriguing part of his moment onstage was the premiere of his video for "Fade," which featured G.O.O.D. Music family Teyana Taylor in all her bodacious body glory.

Future heated things up with a performance of his hit record "Fuck Up Some Commas," G-Eazy got up close and personal with Britney Spears for "Me Myself & I" and Ty Dolla $ign joined Nick Jonas for "Bacon."

But one of the biggest spectacles of the evening was when Drake surprised everyone when he came out at the end of the night suited up to present Rihanna with the MTV Video Vanguard Award. After winning the night's first award for Best Hip-Hop Video with "Hotline Bling," he ended the show with a touching speech about Rihanna's impact, not only on him, but her fans as well.

While the performances and red carpet looks are always the attention-grabbers, the awards are just as important. See the full list of 2016 MTV VMAs winners below.
