Original Story:

The artist formerly known as Tity Boi wears two chains and boasts two names and has displayed a penchant for wordplay his entire career. With all of that understood, 2 Chainz posted the above text conversation with Drake to Instagram Monday night (Aug. 1), announcing that he has a new mixtape titled Daniel Son; Necklace Don out on Apple Music this coming Friday.

Now, while Drake may have been busy with night two of the seventh annual OVO Fest, making waves of his own with special guest Kanye West and word of their joint album, that doesn't mean that he isn't thinking of his past collaborative brothers as well, writing to Chainz, "When we dropping that joint?" to which the Atlanta rapper responded that he's waiting on word back from Apple to drop a tape this Friday, presumably with at least one Drake feature on there. On Instagram, 2 Chainz sums it up with "Time for some new music."

But it isn't as if he hasn't been dropping new music throughout the year. In March he teamed up with Lil Wayne for the joint album ColleGrove, melding their homes and styles in the process, and prior to that he released the mixtape Felt Like Cappin, spawning the popular "MFN Right." Add to it a verse on Kanye's posse cut "Champions" and a feature on Chance The Rapper's "No Problem" and Chainz has loomed large over 2016 even without a major solo vehicle. That may change this Friday however once Daniel Son; Necklace Don drops. Peep the IG-shared text convo between the two rappers up above.
