Every Episode of Marvel’s ‘Luke Cage’ TV Show Is Named After a Gang Starr Song

The hip-hop and comic book worlds have long been intertwined. Now, Marvel's upcoming Luke Cage Netflix series is set to feature music from Wu-Tang Clan, and every episode will be named after a Gang Starr song.

This has gotta be one of the coolest hip-hop/comic book overlaps to date. Actor Mike Colter will play the role of Luke Cage - the first time a Black superhero has led a Marvel series or movie. Executive producer Cheo Hodari Coker explained the selection process for the lead role at Comic-Con in San Diego, Calif. last week.

Coker told a crowd at Comic-Con, "When I think about what’s going on in the world right now, the world is ready for a bulletproof black man." The former journalist went on to describe the essence of Luke Cage, which premieres Sept. 30 on Netflix. He said, "It’s what I call the Wu Tang-ification of the Marvel universe."

In another case of the hip-hop and comic book worlds colliding, Marvel dropped a bunch of ill hip-hop variant covers in 2015. From Spiderman x Nas, to Ant-Man x Biggie to Wu-Tang x Squadron Supreme, Marvel got mad creative and came up with incredible finished products.

Another major hip-hop/comic book crossover occurred in April 2015, when 50 Cent - always looking for the next business opportunity - joined forces with Marvel Comics. SMS Audio partnered with both Marvel and Reebok at the time.
