Lil Wayne’s “Heavenly Father” Has an Epic Feel

Lil Wayne's Tha Carter V release date is still in limbo but thankfully new music from the rapper isn't far off. Producer Streetrunner has been serving Weezy fans with remastered material from the vault over the last few months and now delivers the new joint "Heavenly Father."

The piano-driven song is all too familiar as it's actually an alternate version of Wayne's track “Pray to the Lord,” a song featured on the Young Money leader's 2007 mixtape, The Drought Is Over 3. "Before I sleep I pray to the Lord my soul to keep/And if I should die before I wake I pray to the Lord my soul to take, for goodness sake," he rhymes.

Streetrunner enhanced the beat, kicking the vibe up a notch. “I produced this version to give the song more of a epic feel,” the beatmaker explains in a note on his SoundCloud page. “The ‘Heavenly Father’ track with just the hook featuring Lil Wayne later went on to become a Fat Joe song on The Darkside Vol. 1 album titled ‘Heavenly Father.’ Here’s the mixed and mastered solo version of Lil Wayne’s ‘Heavenly Father.'”

While loyal supporters of Weezy F. Baby await Tha Carter V, there's new music to come from him on DJ Drama's Quality Street Music 2 plus there's his recent collabo with PartyNextDoor and Jeremih, "Like Dat."

The MC will also detail his musical journey behind bars in his forthcoming book, Gone ‘Til November: A Journal of Rikers Island, due out Oct. 11.
