News broke yesterday (July 27), that the prestige British fashion label Burberry was suing Lil Yachty producer and collaborator Burberry Perry for using their trademark name, plaid pattern, font and logo to propel his own music career, most notably with his 2016 self-titled EP. Perry had posted a photo of that report to his Instagram, captioning it with “EL OH EL” and a tear-faced emoji, but it appears now that he's willing to comply with the brand's request, changing his stage name to TheGoodPerry and dropping a new song, "Blueberry," under it to mark the change.

"I am no longer Burberry Perry," he wrote on Instagram late Wednesday night. "I am THEGOODPERRY." Lil Yachty had taken the blame for the name troubles, writing on Twitter "PUT THE CUFFS ON ME I DID IT," and later suggesting Perry change his name to Blackberry Parrot.

There is a precedent for such lawsuits, which is likely the explanation for Perry's immediate swap, as in March of this year, a judge ordered Private Club's Rolls Royce Rizzy to drop any mention of the luxury car brand from his name, citing copyright infringement. The rapper was also selling shirts on his website with the car brand's logo. Perry had been sent a cease and desist order but it was the lawsuit that inspired the name change. Listen to his first track as TheGoodPerry below, a minute and a half straight-shot self-referential verse that bops.
