Wale fans won't have to wait for the Shine album to get some new music from the veteran rapper. Today (June 15), the D.C. native announced that he would be releasing a mixtape called Summer on Sunset this Friday (June 17). The announcement came with a video trailer for the mixtape that he shared on YouTube and Instagram. Wale also made a comment about the project on Twitter.

"A story about last summer 'Summer on Sunset' 🌴 drops the first day THIS summer," Wale wrote. "#SHiNE season #S4 the summer of Folarin."

Wale dropped a few tracks over the last week that seemed destined for his Shine LP. If not, it appeared they would simply serve as loose singles. It now looks like these songs were a preview of the direction that the Maybach Music Group artist is taking on Summer on Sunset mixtape. The Habib, August Grant and Channel 3 produced "Her Wave" featured Wale singing a bit on the hook. The Phil Ade assisted "Reminisce" saw the MC put his spin on Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth's classic "They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)."

This new summer themed mixtape is not all that Wale has in the cards over the next few months as he will also be part of a major festival. The "Chillin" rapper will be one of the artists performing at Billboard's second annual Hot 100 Festival in August. Wale is scheduled to share the stage with other hip-hop notables like J. Cole, Fetty Wap, Rae Sremmurd and 2016 XXL Freshman Desiigner.
