In a new interview with CNN, Vic Mensa called for more gun control following the tragic event that occurred in Orlando on June 12. The Chicago rapper was particularly disturbed that Omar Mateen, the perpetrator of the worst mass shooting in U.S. history, was able to legally purchase guns after being investigated by the FBI for terrorist activity.

"I'm not saying we should go and takeaway people's guns," Vic Mensa said. "I'm not saying we should repeal the Second Amendment. But I'm saying that we need to be able to have far more restrictions put on who can purchase guns. This is somebody that's been marked for terrorist activities by the FBI, but somehow he's able to buy a gun. That's ridiculous."

Vic Mensa criticized the ability of the public to purchase assault rifles. He stated that such weapons are only used to cause death.

"AR-15's and assault weapons have no place on our streets because there's no practical use for them other than killing other human being," the rapper said. "What's a murderer with no gun to do in Pulse nightclub? He's not killing 50 people with a knife."

The Roc Nation artist also explained that the tragic events in Orlando made him realize how important the upcoming presidential election is. Vic Mensa emphasized that Republican candidate Donald Trump must be stopped before it is too late.

"In this election it's very possible that we're literally voting to save our lives and the lives of people that we love," Mensa told CNN. "The hateful messages that Donald Trump is putting out into the world can only bring hate back. Hate begets hate. Violence begets violence."

Vic Mensa made it clear that he would be voting for Hillary Clinton in the upcoming election. While he did not give her a ringing endorsement, the "U Mad" rhymer explained that she's the better choice.

"I am a Hillary fan right now because it's important that we be decisive," Mensa said. "The things that Hillary stands for, at this point in time, I think, are a lot more beneficial for us than the things Donald Trump stands for."

In addition to his CNN interview, Vic Mensa also sat down with the folks at Genius to do a breakdown of his song "Shades of Blue." You can check that out below.
