The difference between riding a wave and sound biting can be dangerously thin. And though it's said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, it leaves much to be desired in the away of originality. Which is why, after Tyga dropped his new single "1 of 1" last week (June 17), fans are questioning whether its similarities to Drake's "Controlla" are coincidental or intentional.

Both songs bear a strong Jamaican influence, but the steel drum loop on "1 of 1" is near identical the synth loop that defines much of the production on "Controlla." Additionally, "1 of 1" includes a dancehall break just like Drake's tune, and overall the vibes and tempo takes the listener to a street too alike in appearance to the one Drake first directed fans to back in late March.

Boi-1da, Supa Dups, Allen Ritter and Di Genius all produced "Controlla" and a look at Boi-1da's production credits don't show any close working relationship with Tyga that would lead to a reproduction or something similar. "1 of 1" will appear on Tyga's upcoming project Bitch I’m the Shit 2.

That project may be off to a shaky start though if the conversation on Twitter continues to center around the likeness to the Views hit. As one user asked, "Tyga new song '1 of 1' Drake inspired or Jamaican inspired? Or is that the same thing?" Which brings it back to wave riding for biting. Listen to both songs below, with a gallery of Twitter responses to their similarity up top.
