Today (June 13), VH1 announces that Queen Latifah will be the first artist honored at its upcoming honors show, VH1 Hip Hop Honors: All Hail the Queens. The New Jersey entertainment mogul will also serve as the event's executive producer. The show will take place on July 24 at 9 p.m. in New York and air live on VH1.

In a press release, VH1 states, "After a six-year hiatus, the revered VH1 Hip Hop Honors is back celebrating the best and brightest in hip-hop with a twist. This year's live event will pay homage to the female pioneers, trailblazers and trend-setters who led a movement and infiltrated the ranks of the male-dominated genre to make their voices heard and still do today."

According to VH1, the other female artists to be honored will be announced later this week.

The pop culture channel says, "Since its inception in 2004, VH1 Hip Hop Honors has recognized the luminaries who broke new ground and propelled the genre into the cultural phenomenon it has become. From Hip Hop's pioneers like Public Enemy and Tupac Shakur to Def Jam Records and Russell Simmons, VH1 has honored hip-hop from its origins through the numerous phases of its musical evolution."

It was also recently reported that Queen Latifah is producing a new show on the Travel Channel called The Place to Be, which is set to premiere this July. Keep it locked to XXL for more information about Latifah and the upcoming VH1 Hip Hop Honors show.
