Muhammad Ali Dead at 74, Hip-Hop Reacts

Legendary boxer and activist Muhammad Ali passed away on Friday (June 3) at the age of 74.

A spokesman for the family has confirmed the passing. "After a 32-year battle with Parkinson’s disease, Muhammad Ali has passed away at the age of 74. The three-time World Heavyweight Champion boxer died this evening,” said family spokesperson Bob Gunnell.

Ali was hospitalized in a Phoenix area hospital just two days prior for respiratory issues.

Ali fought 61 fights in his illustrious career retiring with a record of 56-5 in 1981. He is arguably the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time, which he was never afraid to boast about, as the slick-tongued athlete often talked hella smack, and backed it up.

His actions outside of the ring brought him just as much fame as he never conformed his political and religious beliefs while under extreme pressure.

Needless to say, Twitter is lit with people pouring out their condolences to the champ, while also doling out props on his life and legacy as "The Greatest."

"The peoples champ. My hero," Snoop Dogg tweeted upon learning of the passing.

"Rest in Power to one of the greatest humans who ever walked earth. This one really hurts. #MuhammedAli," wrote Anderson .Paak on Twitter.

"Muhammad Ali spoke his mind," tweeted producer Cardo. "He was a realist. He knew he was the shit. U had to respect that man no matter what. Long Live Muhammad Ali."

Ali’s funeral will take place in his hometown of Louisville, Ky. "The Ali family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and support and asks for privacy at this time," Gunnell added.
