G Herbo has always used the obstacles in his life to his advantage. From growing up in Chicago's "Terror Town" to escaping the violence that's plagued the streets around him, the newly minted 2016 XXL Freshman's reality-based rhymes have helped him get one step closer to achieving his dreams of rap superstardom.

When life threw lemons at the self-proclaimed "humble beast," who dropped his Ballin Like I'm Kobe mixtape last year, he's been quick to turn them into lemonade. "You gon’ have ups and downs, so many obstacles, music, no matter what you do, whether you doing music or you work a 9-to-5, nothing is gonna go perfect in your life. You gotta understand that and you gotta move forward and make the best out of all situations–bad [or] good," he explains.

The 20-year-old rapper's spot alongside Anderson .Paak,  21 SavageKodak BlackLil Uzi VertLil DickyDave EastDenzel CurryDesiigner and Lil Yachty on the 2016 XXL Freshman Class cover doesn't only please him; his fans are equally as satisfied after championing Herbo to snag a spot on the cover for years. Chicago should be proud of Herbo.

"XXL is a big magazine," the "Bottom of the Bottoms" MC shares. "I fuck with it. I always looked up to big stars on XXL. Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, [and those] on the Freshman cover. To be on it, it’s like I’m continuing the legacy. And grindin’ it out. I feel like that’s what it’s about, dedicating yourself to the grind. And it depends on what you do it for, what you in it for. I love the grind."

Grinding is what he does well. From his Welcome to Fazoland mixtape to his forthcoming Humble Beast album, due out later this year, G Herbo keeps it consistent when it comes to dropping new material.
