Freddie Gibbs Seeks Bail in France, Fights Extradition to Austria

Last week (June 2), Freddie Gibbs was arrested in France on rape charges stemming from a 2015 incident that took place in Austria. The rapper and his lawyers have denied the allegations, with a new report stating that Gibbs will fight extradition that would otherwise force him to face the charges in Austria.

“Freddie Gibbs has indicated to the court that he would not be willing to be handed over to Austrian authorities without exercising his rights to a defense,” his lawyer Michael Malka said in a hearing on Tuesday (June 7). Malka continued, “He categorically denies the accusations made against him in Austria. He is even very surprised that Austria could act on this a year later, while he was on tour in Europe.” The extradition hearing was scheduled to take place on Tuesday but has been rescheduled for June 16.

Gibbs was arrested under a European Arrest Warrant just before he was set to perform in Toulouse, France, with his lawyers currently seeking bail, though no decision will be made until next Tuesday.
