Chris Brown's "Proof" was one of the standout records from his latest album, Royalty. Two days ago (June 19), a Bryson Tiller demo of the popular song emerged.

In an interview with Apple Music, Tiller explains that he wanted the song to land on his breakout mixtape, TRAPSOUL. He says, "That was also a song that I was gonna put on TRAPSOUL. It’s crazy! It was like the last song I got. I was like, 'TRAPSOUL is done, blah, blah, blah. We gotta turn it in Friday.' They sent me the beat and I was like, “This gotta go on TRAPSOUL. This gotta go on TRAPSOUL."

The Louisville artist continues, "Then the more and more I listened to it I was like, 'It’s too R&B for me.' Of course, all my songs are mostly R&B-driven but if it just sounds like… Killer Instinct days. I don’t know if you heard that mixtape. Chris Brown likes it. He took it. I was excited about that."

So, as it turns out, Tiller's version served as a reference for Brown's eventual hit. Regardless, Pen Griffey sounds right at home on the smooth instrumental.

He spits, "Damn, girl you better stop it/You told me tell them other girls to stop calling and I did/Always think I'm with another broad when you're not here/This the truth, why would I lie to you? What are you doing? Worried 'bout what I'm doing/Say you got the proof, it's in my music/I'm a poet baby, had to let you know it, baby, thought you knew it/I chopped down, screw it, I guess I got to slow it up for you this time."
