On this day, May 31, in hip-hop history...

2014: Chicago rapper and Lil Durk affiliate Lil Durk OTF NuNu was killed on May 31, 2014.

As an up-and-coming member of OTF and cousin of Durk, NuNu appeared on the song and video for Durk's 2014 single "OC". In addition to attending junior college, NuNu was pursuing his rap career and had planned to release his mixtape Nuski Got Da Strap in the same year.

Initial reports from The Chicago Tribune indicated that NuNu was shot in broad daylight on the Southside of Chicago. The OTF crew member was reportedly sitting in a parked SUV at the Chatham Village Square Mall, on the city’s South Side, when the shooter walked up to the vehicle and fired several rounds at the Chi-Town MC. NuNu, born, McArthur Swindle, was shot multiple times and tried to escape the scene in the SUV before crashing into a nearby store and being pronounced dead on the scene. He was 21 years old. To this day, the case is still unsolved.

Months after NuNu's death, Durk got a knuckle tattoo to memorialize his cousin. Durk also dedicated his next mixtape, 2014's Signed To The Streets 2, to NuNu.

R.I.P. OTF NuNu.
