For Nicki Minaj, performing in Terminal 5 in New York City doesn't do her stage show justice. With a capacity of 3,000 people, those lucky enough to arrive early will get an amazing front-row view throughout the three-floor arena while the rest of the audience barely sees a thing and has to watch the rapper on various monitors. However, when Queen Minaj stepped foot onstage at Adult Swim’s Upfront party Wednesday night (May 18), any real fan finds a way to watch her in motion.

In front of thousands of suits and ad buyers, Nicki crushed the stage even though 85 percent of the crowd never listened to 95 percent of her music. It’s a difficult task to perform for a group of people who obviously don’t like hip-hop, but Onika Tanya Maraj was up for the task.

To inform the unfamiliar, Adult Swim is programming that airs every night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on the same channel as Cartoon Network. It’s easily one of the most progressive and innovative networks on the planet and has the best writers and creative collective television has ever seen. So it’s pretty easy to see why the channel has been dominating viewership for millennials over the past decade. When it comes to an upfront, the event is held to gain interest from important press and major advertisers to allow marketers to buy television commercial airtime "up front."

Adult Swim’s Upfront parties have been known to wow with past performers like Miley Cyrus, OutKast and Kanye West. Minaj didn’t disappoint. Rattling through hit singles like "Right Thru Me," “Moment 4 Life,” “Feeling Myself,” “Anaconda” and “Only,” Minaj performed for roughly 40 minutes and killed the stage while celebrities in attendance included Eric Andre (The Eric Andre Show), Ilana Glazer (Broad City), Slink Johnson (Black Jesus) and a ton more.

The highlight of the night was the impromptu dance contest Nicki Minaj held onstage. “I need the three sexiest women on the stage… We’re gonna have a dance contest and I’m going to give away money,” she yelled. Nicki invited four young women up front to shake what their momma gave them to the classic 1995 track “Freaks." It was hilarious, awkward and fantastic. The winner received $500 and a hump session from the Queens MC.

As the drinks started to pile up, Nicki ended the show with confetti and a huge smile. “Thanks for having me,” she said as she floated off the stage. No, thank you Nicki.
