Prince's death left a major hole in the music world, but his spirit continues to make its presence felt with special moments like this. The Prince Museum Facebook page released some rare footage of a 2014 performance where Kendrick Lamar and Prince shared the stage.

The rare collaboration took place at a release party for Prince's albums Plectrumelectrum and Art Official Age. Kendrick Lamar joined the legendary musician to perform a rendition of Prince's 1998 track "What's My Name." Kendrick added some new verses to the song while Prince wowed the crowd like only he could.

Prince was a big fan of Kendrick Lamar's work and almost appeared on To Pimp A Butterfly. The Grammy's ran an oral history which detailed how Kendrick's track "Complexion" was going to feature Prince.

"He said he wanted to talk about the beauty of black people. I told him to say no more," Rapsody said of the song. "What tripped me out is Kendrick originally said that he didn’t want to do a verse on there. He wanted me to do two verses and Prince to do the hook."

"That’s true,” Kendrick confirmed. "Prince heard the record, loved the record and the concept of the record got us to talking. We got to a point where we were just talking in the studio and the more time that passed we realized we weren’t recording anything. We just ran out of time, it’s as simple as that."

Unfortunately, the world never got to hear Kendrick Lamar and Prince collaborate on a proper record. But at least this live performance of "What's My Name" is memorable enough on its own.
