Well, this could be awkward. Hot 97's Summer Jam has played a pivotal role in past hip-hop beefs, and may add to its flame-fueling legacy this year as both Future and Desiigner are booked to perform at Met Life Stadium for the station's annual concert event.

While they are designated to play separate stages, Desiigner taking the Festival Stage and Future headlining the Stadium Stage, that doesn't rule out a potential intersection and/or confrontation. Consider as well that Pusha T and Big Sean will be performing as a G.O.O.D. Music unit on the Stadium Stage and the possibility edges closer to certainty.

With Desiigner's hit song "Panda" currently sitting atop the Billboard charts, the overwhelming notion is that the Brooklyn rapper has taken a sound and style popularized by Future and ran with it, achieving milestones that even Future himself has yet to. Adding to the comparisons, Desiigner hasn't shied away from releasing Future-esque titles, announcing a mixtape called Purple Rain in April and performing a song titled "Pluto" at SXSW in March.

The G.O.O.D. Music signee has said of the Future comparisons, "I like some of his songs. I think he’s a great artist and I ain’t going to ever turn him down. Just know I have plenty of more music. That’s all I got to say for the people who say I sound like him. Keep tuning in." And Future has likewise commented on the situation, saying, "“There’s only one Future around this mothafucka and I’m really the plug.”

We'll have to wait and see if Summer Jam turns into a powder keg of hostility, but for a show that typically wows with its star-studded line-up this new development adds a whole extra layer of intrigue. Summer Jam 2016 will take place on June 5.
