Akon is a man with a plan to make the world a better place. The R&B sensation is using his celebrity in the best way possible, teaming up with DJ Hardwerk and Shell Gasoline to drop the uplifting new video for the single "Tell Me We're OK" today (May 10).

The visual starts with Akon and Hardwerk chilling on the couch watching startling news of a broadcaster reporting over a billion people in the world still don't have electricity. The news saddens Akon to the point where he heads to his homeland of Africa to show off the vibrancy of his people. Among shots of city streets, laughing school children, a lively soccer game and a drum performance, Akon and Hardwerk throw a concert for fans.

The new video was released by Shell Gasoline as a part of their #MakeTheFuture campaign. In addition to showcasing new music, the clip brings attention to over a million people living without electricity in Africa. The first solar and human powered soccer field is also showcased in the video as part of the overall message to push and encourage entrepreneurs to apply their innovative ideas and technology to real world problems.

Renewable energy has been a cause that's hit close to home for Akon. Last summer, the Senegalese singer helped to create a solar technology training academy in Africa. Back in 2013, the Grammy-nominated star started the company Akon Lighting Africa to bring solar power to rural areas of The Mother Land. To date, his company has helped bring power to 14 countries on the continent. According to Akon Lighting Africa, 600 million Africans are still without day-to-day electricity.
