Lil Wayne Receives Key to City of Lafayette

Lil Wayne performed for the University of Louisiana Lafayette Monday night (April 18) as a result of a student-led charity contests in which the members of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity donated nearly 7,000 water bottles to Flint, Mich. residents and in turn won a free concert. Just before taking the stage though, as Nola.com reports, Weezy was presented with a key to the city of Lafayette by city Mayor-President Joel Robideaux, and as Robideaux points out, the key itself is custom made.

"We appreciate what you and Tidal have done on behalf of the philanthropic effort," he said. "And we’re so proud of our Ragin' Cajuns and Alpha Phi Alpha for what they did and we want to present to you a very special key to the city that we made specifically for you. One of a kind. No one else has it. That’s the only one in America."

The key is linked to a gold chain, and the expression Wayne gives upon seeing it is priceless. He lets out a muted "we made it!" just before placing it around it neck.

Several rappers have been presented with the key to their city in recent months, with Drake receiving his during NBA All-Star Weekend in Toronto. Additionally, Kendrick Lamar received the key to Compton in February, Bryson Tiller can open all doors in Louisville as of March and just a month ago, Organized Noize received the key to Atlanta.
