Update:

Looking more like a million first week for the boy now:

Original Story:

Drake told the crowd at a Views listening party in Toronto last night (April 29) that he sold around 630,000 copies of his new album in one night. You can hear him say so above.

In comparison, What a Time to Be Alive sold 375,000 first week and If You're Reading This It's Too Late moved 535,000 units in a three day window.

The album will almost surely debut at No. 1 next week, but what's interesting is seeing what song will pop next. "One Dance" is already breaking records on the U.K. charts and has quickly become Drake's first No. 1 hit on the Canadian Billboard Hot 100. Once the album gets released to Spotify (which, we presume, it will), we'll be able to see the streams for each song on the album, a cool feature Apple Music doesn't have. Then we can keep track of which songs are naturally bubbling.

While it makes sense for the rollout, Drake's inclusion of "Hotline Bling" at the end of album has some other massive implications for his album sales. Because the cumulative streams of that song will be included in calculating sales of the album on the Billboard chart, it gives Drake a huge head start. Plus, though Drake albums are usually long, 20 songs makes for 20 streaming opportunities, instead of, say, 11 or 12.

Regardless, 630k in one night sounds major. Apple Music's streams definitely played a major role in those numbers, but to what extent is yet to be seen.
