At the center of Young Thug's majesty is an ability to take his music, visuals and fashion in any conceivable direction and have it make sense. It's cliche to say expect the unexpected, but that's more or less Thugger's conceit. While the zany and outlandish will receive proper justification, so too will the realistic.

It can't be surprising then to watch the "My People" video, chock full of Black Lives Matter imagery, and yet, in a sense it is. The same way Thug makes pink scrubs work in the "F Cancer" video, he rocks all camo or all black here as if ordinary is the new extraordinary. Directed by Be EL Be and featuring Duke, "My People" is in the streets, in buildings under construction and on rooftops, guns and umbrellas in hand, fists raised up in the air.

Thug's practice of continuously subverting expectation really has no parallel today and "My People" off his Slime Season 3 sub-in I'm UP carries forth that trend with remarkable effect. For a rapper who can make announcements from atop a horse without anybody so much as blinking an eye, a video with socio-political undertones is just the sort of left field move that somehow works.

Catch "My People" up top and be on the look out for more music from Thugger, as his debut album HiTunes is on the perceivable way considering the rapper is set to announce a new tour by the same name. With Slime Season 3 presently on ice, I'm UP will have to suffice until then.
