Part of Tidal's appeal and competitive advantage over similar streaming services like Spotify or Apple Music is that the Jay Z helmed platform provides exclusive concert and video experiences in addition to the more conventional music library. Just this week in fact, 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne streamed their ColleGrove concert on Tidal, and based on recent reports, the service is only expanding its video library.

As the New York Post's Page Six is exclusively reporting, Tidal will join the likes of Netflix and Hulu by providing original films for users to stream. The streaming service will place a focus on the artists already signed to their team, which include Kanye West, Rihanna and others. As Page Six reports, Tidal has already requested that Apple approve the addition of movie streaming to their app, with the new feature becoming available as early as June.

The Post quotes a source as saying, "Tidal has upset everybody in the music business, the labels, Apple and Jimmy Iovine, and now it is taking on Netflix and Hulu...The movie service will feature original content as well as acquired films. Tidal hopes to work with an indie studio or producer on a partnership to create original movies.”

What's perhaps most interesting is that rather than housing pre-stocked movies, Tidal is looking to empower its artists to create. As Kanye West has alluded to in the past, there are frequently obstacles for musicians (rappers, in particular) to expand their artistic output beyond the confines of their assigned medium, so an avenue such as this will allow those to dabble in acting or filmmaking with greater ease.
