A war of words could land a New York rapper behind bars for good. Sean Chung, who goes by the rap name J.P. Smoov, was arrested last month because of threats made in his lyrical content. The 20-year-old MC is behind bars for posting a video on YouTube in November 2015 for his single "KAR" that feature lyrics allegedly threatening the Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

Smoov says in his song: “Tell the judge to get off my c***, put the DA in a box.” Officials have taken Smoov's lyrics as a direct threat to the Queens District Attorney and are not taking his words lightly. Smoov was been remanded to Riker's Island as of Feb. 22

As The New York Daily News reports, Smoov's attorney Audrey Thomas claims “KAR” was written two years ago and is defending the young rapper's words as freedom of speech. “The song predates his arrest. He’s been rapping since he was 15, he was arrested at 18,” said Thomas. “Whatever happened to the First Amendment?”

This isn't the first of Smoov's criminal charges. Before his lyrics landed him behind bars, the rapper had just been released on bail following murder conspiracy charges for his involvement in a plot to kill two members of a rival gang. If convicted on the conspiracy charges, Smoov faces 25 years to life.
