Kanye West’s “Power” vs. “Diamonds From Sierra Leone” – Vote for the Best Song

We started out with 32 tracks, selected from his seven albums, to compete. Round one in the bracket competition has ended and now we're on to round two. If a rapper ever needed theme music for their career, “Power” would certainly fit the bill. Kanye’s lead single off his 2010 album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, finds him as confident as ever, rhyming over an S1-assisted beat. The MC realizes he’s got nothing to lose in a world that he adamantly looks upon as his own.

“Diamonds From Sierra Leone” is one of ‘Ye’s deeper tracks on his Late Registration LP. On first listen, “Diamonds are forever (forever, forever) / Throw your diamonds in the sky if you feel the vibe,” is a nod to the ice hanging around his neck and his home at Roc-A-Fella but on the remix, he gives fans a history lesson by delivering more detail on the situation in Sierra Leone and conflict diamonds: “Good mornin’, this ain’t Vietnam still / People lose hands, legs, arms, for real / Little was known of Sierra Leone / And how it connect to the diamonds we own.” At the 2006 Grammy Awards, ‘Ye walked away with the win for Best Rap Song.
