Oakland native Kamaiyah was down and out after being kicked out of her mother's house last year. But with her debut mixtape, A Good Night in the Ghetto, the 24-year-old rapper is well on her way to rising up hip-hop's ranks. With slapping Bay Area-tailored beats, Kamaiyah's 16-track effort is a true come up story that features plenty of joints to snap your head to.

"I wanted to make a soundtrack for the average 18-25 year old thriving, living and having a good time,” Kamaiyah told The FADER. “A Good Night in the Ghetto is a fun time with no drama and no one being hurt. That's what I want to promote. l want to promote living but also make it known that it's OK to have problems. It's not what you go through it's how you get through it. This is the soundtrack of how to get through it.”

The project tags YG for the party anthem "Fuck It Up" and has production from CT Beats, DJ Official, Trackademicks, WTF Standup and more. Check it out above and peep the video for the standout "How Does It Feel" below.

Kamaiyah will be performing at this week's SXSW festival down in Austin, Texas. The West Coast MC is scheduled to appear at Mohawk Outdoor on Thursday, March 17. XXL has the scoop on Kamaiyah and  29 other artists to check out if you're traveling to the Lone Star State.
