Chuck D and DMC Appear in Trailer for PBS’ ‘Soundbreaking’

Legendary producer George Martin passed away last week (March 8), but one of his last creations is going to see the light of day this year. PBS has unveiled the trailer for a new eight-part series called Soundbreaking: Stories From the Cutting Edge of Record Music. Hip-hop's presence is felt in the trailer through the contributions of Chuck D and Darryl "DMC" McDaniels.

The series sees Martin and his son Giles enlisting the help of over 150 artists to share their behind-the-scenes stories of creating some of music's iconic records.

"Soundbreaking afforded me the opportunity to tell the story of the creative process of so many of the artists I have worked with throughout my life," George Martin said in a statement before his passing.

RZA, Q-Tip, Questlove, Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz and Rick Rubin are among the other hip-hop artists who were interviewed for the series. Higher Ground, which is presenting the series, spoke to how the respect for George Martin in the industry allowed him to get so many interviews.

"As a co-creator, Sir George Martin was the inspiration and intellectual force behind the Soundbreaking project," Higher Ground founder David Langstaff said in a statement. "He was involved with all phases of the project and was immensely proud of the way these great stories were being told. The fact that so many extraordinary singers, songwriters, producers, and other artists came together to tell their stories is a testament to the respect and love they hold for Sir George, and the widespread recognition of his impact on the evolution of recorded music."

Soundbreaking will air this November on PBS.
