Few artists have left a lasting impression like Nate Dogg has over the course of their careers. Before Ty Dolla $ign, BJ the Chicago Kid, Anderson .Paak and other soulful crooners of today, Nate Dogg was the first artist in hip-hop to deliver tales of the street-life while vocalizing, unknowingly opening doors for the hybrids that are all the rage today.

Born in Clarksdale, Miss., Nate Dogg would move to Long Beach, Calif. at the age of 14, where he would meet Warren G and Snoop Dogg and eventually form the group 213. When Warren's older brother, Dr. Dre, took Snoop under his wing as the flagship prospect of Death Row Records, it opened the door for Nate to showcase his gift for singing on a grand scale, making his debut appearance on The Chronic cut, "Deeez Nuuuts," and Snoop's blockbuster debut LP, Doggystyle, both of which established him as the go-to vocalist for the West Coast.

But it would be a collaboration with his former groupmate Warren G that would position Nate Dogg to pursue a solo career of his own. But while Nate set the template, the road was not as easy for him as a solo artist, with his 1998 double album G-Funk Classics Vol. 1 & 2 proving to be a tough sell on rap fans who had not yet come around to the idea of a full-fledged vocalist within hip-hop. However, he was able to make a name for himself via guest appearances on other artist's records. Finally getting his chance to shine on the mainstream level with his Music & Me album, Nate Dogg would spend the aughts continuing to take hits from rap's elite to the next level with his midas touch.

The second half of the decade would be filled with health problems for Nate Dogg, with the rapper suffering a stroke in 2007 and another in 2008, ultimately leading to his passing in 2011. On the five-year anniversary of his death, we've dug up 10 of Nate Dogg's career-defining guest appearances to celebrate his legacy.
