2 Chainz Speaks on the Death of Bankroll Fresh

2 Chainz appeared on the Wendy Williams Show and got a chance to speak about Bankroll Fresh, who was tragically killed last Friday (March 4).

"He had his own movement called Street Execs," 2 Chainz said of the late rapper. "He was an authentic trap rapper from Atlanta who touched many lives and lit up every room he went to. It was super unfortunate, super unnecessary, super senseless. And it just made me want to step up and use my platform for more positivity."

Earlier in the interview, 2 Chainz explained why he and Lil Wayne dropped their new album Collegrove as a surprise release.

"I think that’s the new way to promote and market things," 2 Chainz stated. "The original way or the old way was to set a date and get the fans excited about putting the project out and then doing marketing and promo leading up to the album. But today’s youth’s attention span is so short that I felt like I could just put out an album and the impulse of it being a surprise album would drive them to buy the project.”

Wendy Williams asked if there was any difficulty in the album's release with Lil Wayne's situation at Cash Money Records. The Atlanta rapper said there were no issues.

"Nah, it actually wasn't," 2 Chainz responded. "I have a great relationship with Cash Money/Young Money. [Wayne's] like my brother, my friend. Actually, he's my favorite rapper. So, I just felt like it was time to put out a project or somehow just acknowledge the fact that he had a lot to do with moving the culture to where it is now."
