Childish Gambino is about to have a busy year. Gambino, a.k.a Donald Glover, is marrying his rap and acting careers in a new series from FX called Atlanta and fans of the MC can now get a sneak peek of the project. Catching up with FXM for a red carpet interview, Glover and his cast talked about the space his show will fill in mainstream media.

Isiah Whitlock Jr., who plays Glover's father on the show, broke it down best. "It's about truth. It's about life. Even though it is a show for rappers, there's a lot of truth, a lot of life to it."

"It's a show I kinda always wanted to see on television," said 32-year-old Glover. "So, I hope that other television shows do it too."

Glover's self-written rags to riches series follows the lives of cousins trying to make their rap career take off in one of America’s hip-hop meccas, the ATL. Gambino penned the script and stars as protagonist Earnest “Earn” Marks, who returns to his hometown of Atlanta hoping to get a second chance in music. The new show also stars Zazie Beetz, Brian Tyree Henry and Lakeith Lee Stanfield.

First green lit by FX back in October of last year, the network has ordered a ten-episode run of the scripted series. Though Glover has an extensive resume in the acting realm, having starred in The Martian, Magic Mike XL and The Lazarus Effect, this will be his first self-produced scripted series. No exact premiere date has been announced yet, but Atlanta is scheduled for a summer 2016 release.
