For the second straight year, Missy Elliott made a Super Bowl Sunday appearance. In 2015, Elliott joined Katy Perry for the halftime show and ran through a medley of her hits that helped launch her back into the spotlight after a lengthy hiatus. Missy didn't perform during at this year's edition of the big game but she still found her way into over a hundred million households by starring in a new Amazon commercial.

Appearing alongside former NFL quarterback Dan Marino and actors Alec Baldwin and Jason Schwartzmen to push Amazon's new Echo product, Elliott seized the moment and debuted her latest single "Pep Rally." With it's sports-related lyrics, the Virginia native picked the perfect opportunity to drop her new single.

Elliott hasn't released an album since 2005's The Cookbook but rumors of a new album popped up in late 2015. In an interview with Billboard, the "Work It" rapper was cautiously optimistic in regards to when her next project will come. "I want to say 2016 but I don’t want to give a time. Nowadays you say a time, they’ll stone you."

Missy wasn't the only hip-hop artist to pop up on the Super Bowl telecast. Lil Wayne starred in an Apartments.com commercial, Drake stole the show in his T-Mobile spot and T-Pain popped up in Mini Car's label defying ad. Multiple artists also ventured to Santa Clara to take in the festivities. Jay Z was there to cheer on Beyonce as she performed her new song "Formation" during halftime and shared a luxury box with Kendrick Lamar, Usher and others to watch the Broncos down the Panthers 24-10.
