Kendrick Lamar Walks Away With Five Big Wins at 2016 Grammy Awards

While Kendrick Lamar didn't take home all 11 of the Grammys he was nominated for like he said he wanted to, he still walked away from Monday night's ceremony a big winner. In total, Lamar won five Grammys though he lost in each of the major categories he was nominated in, with Taylor Swift winning Album of the Year for 1989 and Ed Sheeran winning Song of the Year for "Thinking Out Loud."

After losing Best Rap Album to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis in 2014, Kendrick swept the 2016 rap categories, winning Best Rap album for To Pimp a Butterfly, and three other categories for songs included on the album. "These Walls" featuring Bilal, Anna Wise and Thundercat won Best Rap/Sung collaboration, while "Alright" won Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. Kendrick's fifth prize came for Best Music Video for his role in Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood."

Lamar also performed at Monday evening's ceremony, using prison imagery while rapping portions of "The Blacker the Berry" and "Alright." A number of rappers took to Twitter to congratulate Lamar on the performance, while non-musician celebrities likewise joined in on the applause via social media.

While accepting the award for Best Rap Album from Ice Cube and his son O'Shea Jackson Jr., Kendrick thanked god, his parents and his label, Top Dog Entertainment. Though the evening could have been much bigger for Kendrick and To Pimp a Butterfly, celebration and congratulations are still in order for the MC who no doubt graced the world with a true piece of art and was justly recognized for it.
