While there was much to discuss following Kanye West's Yeezy Season 3 and The Life of Pablo unveiling at Madison Square Garden on Thursday (Feb. 11), a huge takeaway for many was a line that references Taylor Swift. Kanye famously interrupted Swift's acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, forever tying the two mismatched stars together. In recent years, they have bridged the gap created by the interruption, causing the line  “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / I made that bitch famous,” on Pablo's “Famous” all the more jarring.

In the wake of the event, it came out that Kanye asked Taylor to premiere the song on her Twitter account, but the singer declined. Now, on Friday morning, Kanye has taken to Twitter himself to clarify the lyric. "I did not diss Taylor Swift and I've never dissed her..." he wrote in the first of a series of tweets. "First thing is I'm an artist as and as an artist I will express how I feel with no censorship. 2nd thing I asked my wife for her blessing and she was cool with it. 3rd thing I called Taylor and had a hour long convo with her about the line and she thought it was funny and gave her blessings."

West then goes on to credit Swift for coming up with the line, having said at a dinner once, "I can’t be mad at Kanye because he made me famous!" While Kanye's explanation is nice enough, it seems to contradict a statement released by Taylor Swift's spokesperson in which Swift warned Kanye about “releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message.” The spokesperson also writes that Swift was never made aware of the actual lyric, "I made that bitch famous." It certainly would be curious if Swift had in deed given the lyric the green light, but the world may never truly know what was approved and what was discouraged.
