Hip-Hop Reacts to Leonardo DiCaprio’s First Oscar Win

The 88th Academy Awards aired last night (Feb. 28), and while there was plenty of well-deserved roasting for the ceremony only nominating white actors in its four major acting categories, there was also reason to celebrate, as Leonardo DiCaprio won his first ever Oscar. The highly-respected actor had been nominated four times prior but walked away empty handed each time - that is, until winning for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for The Revenant on Sunday night.

While many in hip-hop had voiced their protest of the ceremony in light of the lack of diverse nominations, some still tuned in and gave DiCaprio his due for the long-awaited win. Kanye West tweeted "Finally!!! Our guy!!! We're so so happy for Leo!!!" just days after bigging up Will Ferrell, while Lil Wayne kept it brief, writing, "Kongrats Leonardo DiCaprio!!!!!"

Fabolous meanwhile extended his congratulations on Instagram calling Leo one of his top five male actors of all time while applauding his perseverance for not giving up on his strive for Oscar gold. Praise came in elsewhere from Pill and Juicy J, the latter writing on Twitter "Leo somewhere high as fuk!" speaking from past experience, as the Three 6 Mafia member won an Oscar in 2015 for his contributions to Hustle & Flow. No doubt, the partying-going Leo was celebrating in a manner Juicy would have approved of. Check out all of the reactions in the gallery above. While the evening was certainly marked by the nominations controversy, a Leo win provided a galvanizing moment for all.
