Fans React to Yasiin Bey’s Retirement From Rap

Another day, another rapper retires. Yasiin Bey revealed that he would be hanging up his mic for good late Tuesday (Jan. 19), which surprised more than a few hip-hop fans in the Twitterverse. The man formerly known as Mos Def chose to make the announcement through an audio recording released through Kanye West's official website.

The news of his retirement comes almost one week after being arrested for violating local immigration laws in South Africa. "Related but not directly related to this, I’m retiring from the music recording industry as it is currently assembled today," the 42-year-old said. "And also from Hollywood, effectively immediately. I will be releasing my final album this year and that’s that.”

He also treated those listening to his diatribe with a freestyle over Yeezy's “No More Parties in L.A.” “No more parties in S.A, please tell 'em no more parties in S.A. / Hey home affairs, I don’t need to stay / I’ll leave and I’ll stay away / I committed no crime any place / Why these police up in my face?” Bey rhymes.

The consensus on Twitter seems to be that fans don't want him to leave hip-hop. "It really does suck that Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) is gonna retire after this year.
