While Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again" may not have won a Golden Globe or been nominated for an Oscar, the Furious 7 track did take home some hardware Sunday night (Jan. 17) at the Critics' Choice Awards. Up against Ellie Goulding's “Love Me Like You Do” from Fifty Shades of Grey, Lady Gaga's “Til It Happens to You” from The Hunting Ground, Brian Wilson's “One Kind of Love” from Love & Mercy, Sam Smith's “Writing’s on the Wall” from Spectre and David Lang's “Simple Song #3” from Youth, the Paul Walker tribute won the award for Best Song. John Legend and Common's "Glory" from Selma registered the win at last year's ceremony.

The song has had its fair share of popularity on the charts and on the 'Net as well. Back in October, the single became the first hip-hop song to reach 1 billion views on YouTube. This summer, it wound up tied for the longest reign a hip-hop single has enjoyed atop the Billboard charts. At 12 weeks, it lasted as long as Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” and the Black Eyed Peas’ “Boom Boom Pow.”

As award season continues, it's a big victory for Wiz. While "See You Again" demonstrated significant chart dominance in 2015, its intentional tugging of the heartstrings and pointed use in Furious 7 may have resulted in snubs and losses elsewhere. The Golden Globe for Best Song went to Sam Smith's "Writing's on the Wall" from the latest James Bond installment Spectre, but Wiz was in attendance and used the opportunity to announce that his next album, Khalifa, will drop Jan. 22.
