Leonard "Hub" Hubbard, who played bass in The Roots from 1992 through 2007, has filed a lawsuit against the band's founding members Black Thought and Questlove, along with the group's manager. Hubbard claims that the agreement which pays him royalties and health insurance as an owner of the band is no longer being honored, and hasn't been since 2014.

According to TMZ, Hubbard is seeking the royalties he claims he's owed for the last two years. Hubbard left the band after he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer that curbed his ability to play and rehearse with the band.

In 2009, two years after Hubbard's departure, the legendary crew became the house band on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, and followed the host when he signed on to helm The Tonight Show for NBC. They currently back the show every week night, making them one of the most visible musical acts in the country on a per-household basis. In addition to playing the show's theme song, "Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey," and providing introductions for guests, the band members occasionally perform bits with Fallon.

At press time, The Roots had not addressed the situation. Their last album, 2014's ...And Then You Shoot Your Cousin, was popular with critics, continuing the Philadelphia band's run as one of the most critically respected acts in the genre. This year will mark the 20th anniversary of their seminal album Illadelph Halflife
