It's been 15 years since Jay Z rapped that Memphis Bleek was "one hit away" from stardom. (It's been a little over 10 years since, on the "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" remix, he added, "Bleek could be one hit away his whole career/As long as I'm alive, he's a millionaire.") While mainstream stardom was never in the cards for Jay's one-time Marcy neighbor, he's been a reliable conduit for information about the Roc-a-Fella/Roc Nation hierarchy, and his latest public appearance is no exception.

Earlier today (Jan. 21), Bleek was a guest on The Breakfast Club, where he discussed with the hosts a variety of issues, including the shifting way in which fans consume music. (He also mentions that he won't badmouth Dame Dash, because the Harlem third of the Roc braintrust once got him out of a predatory management contract.) But as could probably be expected, the comments that caused the most waves are about his famous mentor.

"I don't know if he's retired," Bleek said, "but I don't know if he'll ever drop another album." He added that while the legendary MC "might drop songs here and there," it's unlikely Jay would block out the time necessary to craft a proper solo LP: "Imagine what it would take to get Jay in the studio to lay a verse."

Jay's last solo album was 2013's Magna Carta Holy Grail, which was released exclusively to subscribers to a Samsung mobile app.
