Original Story: With the New Year upon us, festival season is on the horizon, which means lineup announcements are rolling in steady. Today (Jan. 8), the lineup for New York City's Governors Ball Music Festival was released and Kanye West will once again be headlining. West last headlined the festival in 2013, before the release of his sixth studio album, Yeezus. The timing here is important, as Kanye gears up to release his next album SWISH, which has been delayed as he introduced his first collection with adidas and pursued his designer aspirations at the expense of his music. A return to the Governors Ball stage suggests that the album will be released before or sometime after the festival, just as Yeezus was.

The other hip-hop and R&B acts on the bill include Action Bronson, Mac Miller, Joey Bada$$, De La Soul, Vince Staples, Vic Mensa. Miguel and Big Grams (Big Boi + Phantogram). The 2016 Governors Ball will take place on Randall's Island from June 3 - 5, just days before Kanye's 39th birthday. This year's poster (seen above) was designed by the Kanye West-founded creative agency DONDA.

Previous Governors Ball's similarly emphasized hip-hop, with Drake headlining the 2015 bill and Outkast anchoring the 2014 one as part of their summer-long reunion tour. Tickets for this year's festival are available now at Eventbrite, though all pre-sale packages have sold out. The remaining 3-day ticket packages range from $275 to $2,000.
