Cam'ron has long been teasing Purple Haze 2, a sequel to his 2004 magnum opus and, as of late, the record he promises will be his last. Today (Jan. 20), the Harlem legend lets loose with the video for "U Wasn't There," that LP's lead single. The clip delivers little in the way of new footage, instead cribbing the format for Kanye West's "Through the Wire" video in jumping from Polaroid to Polaroid.

The song itself is littered with references to figures from Cam's childhood and earlier career, memories of basketball games, images of New York before 9/11. The production has the undeniable feel of his early-2000s heyday, which was typified by the chipmunk soul sounds that peaked on 2003's Dipset double-disc Diplomatic Immunity.

Cam most recently dropped an EP with the Bay Area's Berner, called Contraband. He's also made several forays into television comedy, appearing as a variety of characters (office Santa, head of human resources, game show host) on programs like The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore and in spots for brands including Hypnotiq. And after years of rumors, it seems as if he might finally be working toward airing his own sitcom.

His last solo record was 2009's Crime Pays, which was anchored by the acclaimed single "(I Used To) Get It In Ohio." And if you'd like to get an early jump on your Mother's Day shopping, there are always the Cam-branded greeting cards he issued last year.
