Following his death earlier this month, the family for Blowfly, born Clarence Reid, has begun a crowdfunding campaign to finance the rapper's funeral expenses.

The campaign, which is being held on You Caring, was started by Blowfly's sister and family spokesperson Virginia B. Lawrence. On the page, she writes, "Together with Tom Bowker, Clarence's manager, we applied for a grant from a prominent music charity to cover Clarence's funeral expenses. Our award fell far short of the amount needed to give Clarence a dignified burial and funeral. Unfortunately, due to the the size of our grant, we are forced to ask fans of Clarence Reid and Blowfly once more for help. Clarence was a musical giant who deserves to be honored. The funeral is in a week and we are on a tight deadline to pay for it and the burial."

As of 10 a.m. Monday morning, the campaign had raised $12,890, 92 percent of it's $14,000 goal. Blowfly had passed on Jan. 17 at the age of 76 after losing a battle with liver cancer. The money raised will fund Blowfly's funeral and burial as well as the rapper's headstone. According to Bowker, donations have come in from Despot, Slug of Atmosphere and professional wrestler X Pac. Bowker also says that timing is essential, as the funeral is scheduled for Sat. Jan. 30. Donations as small as one dollar can be made at You Caring.
