Queen Latifah and Common headed to the Emerald City last night (Dec. 3). NBC featured a live showing of The Wiz Live!, with an all-black cast featuring Latifah, Common, Mary J. Blige and Ne-Yo, among others.

The Queen played the Wizard of Oz, with Ne-Yo as Tin Man, Mary J as Evelline and Common as the gate keeper to the Wizard of Oz.

Directed by Tony winner Kenny Leon (A Raisin in the Sun), the event was a spectacular rendition of the 1975 Broadway show and 1978 film starring Michael Jackson and Diana Ross. Shanice Williams, newcomer to the stage, showed off her fantastic vocal skills as Dorothy, keeping up with every one of the classic songs along the way.

Common's no stranger to the small screen, with a past role on AMC’s Hell on Wheels and an upcoming part in the DC Comics flick Suicide Squad. As for the Queen, she's starred in Barbershop 2, Just Wright and Hairspray, to name a few.

Those who watched the two-hour show seemed to enjoy it after a look through Twitter. Fans praised The Wiz Live! for the cast performance, which brought back childhood memories for many. There were also a number of people who cracked some pretty funny jokes as they watched the live event. Take a look at some of the hip-hop-inspired tweets below.
